Come and take a look at the history of Tervo!

The Tervo Local History Society is proud to present the results of its local place names project, Places, names and stories, begun in 2005 and completed in 2008. The material has been assembled from historical information collected at different times and held in national archive databases. It is now available here on our website for anyone to freely access.

The material presented here is only a tiny fraction of Tervo's rich cultural heritage and local history. It nevertheless serves to illustrate the importance of documenting such details and traditions. If no records are kept, the information may be lost for ever.

The Places, names and stories project would not have been possible without the aid of dedicated volunteers and local supporters. Project funding was obtained from Mansikka ry and from the EU Leader+ programme.
The information content forming the core of this website is based on the archive information and expert assistance obtained from the Research Institute for the Languages of Finland, the Finnish National Archive and the Finnish Literature Society.

The project material is organised under the following headings:
* 18th century land reform documents: maps and documentation from the great land reform of the late 18th century, by village
* Stories: stories of Tervo from the Finnish Literature Society's 1930s archive material
* Places: background and context for place names in Tervo
* Tervo Local History Society publications: on architectural heritage and related matters

The material may be freely quoted provided that this website and the original source are given as sources. However, publication of the material requires permission from the holder of the original information.
